Although Taekwondo competitions are generally semi-contact rather than full contact, people do often get carried away, or misjudge the distance slightly, and make a hard contact. Taekwondo is well known for its impressive jumping and spinning kicks, and other powerful and dramatic strikes; these kicks are impressive enough to watch in semi-contact competition but when they land one full the face on their opponent it makes for rivetting viewing. I’m broadening the subject area covered by this site with this video, setting up a new semi-contact category. Some semi-contact combat sports can lack the excitement of full-contact fights, but I’ve always found the impressive kicks, and the speed and skill of a taekwondo match, more than makes up for this and provides some greeat entertainment.
So to kick off the new category (pun intended!) here is a compilation of the best Taekwondo action from the 2008 Beijing olympic games:
